Prof. Ingeborg Torvik Slvberg is a Professor in Informatics / Information Management at the Department of Computer and Information Science, Norwegian University of Science and Technology. She is heading the Information Management Group, which gives courses in digital libraries, information and knowledge management, and information retrieval.
Previously she was with SINTEF (The Foundation for Scientific and Industrial Research at the Norwegian Institute of Technology), and held several positions such as researcher, Programme Manager, and Section Leader.
She started her research and development work, combining information technology and libraries, in 1970. She was the Project Leader of BIBSYS (the Norwegian Library Network) from the beginning in 1972 until 1985. Professor Slvberg was heading the Knowledge Technology Group at SINTEF from early '80. She has participated in several national and international research projects, funded by NFR, ESA and EU, in areas such as information retrieval, information logistics, knowledge acquisition and knowledge technology (AI). Presently she holds a grant from the Norwegian Research Council (NFR) for Digital Libraries. She supervises several master and doctoral students in research areas like architecture of Digital Libraries, modelling of digital objects, metadata, collection construction, and the use and integration of Digital Libraries in corporations.
